About Nicholas Bloniarz

Coming from a background in both the community mental health and medical field, and operating from a perspective deeply rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Nicholas works with individuals (and couples) to navigate anxiety, depression, life/career transitions, grief, substance use, trauma, relationship issues, anger, and emotional dysregulation - while offering practical tools alongside a compassionate and non-judgemental space.

His approach is collaborative, narrative-focused, and evidence-based. He believes therapy and healing work best when they are grounded in your values, beliefs, goals, and unique lived experiences. Whether you are working to reduce unhealthy thought patterns, develop more effective coping skills, create more psychological flexibility, or simply learn more about yourself, his goal is to provide individuals with the skills needed to help them move closer to living their authentic and meaningful lives.

Nicholas received his MSed in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Illinois University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. His ongoing training and research focuses mainly on complex trauma, relationships, anxiety, and anger management. Prior to his time in private practice, Nicholas spent three years as a mental health therapist for Family Counseling Service, one of the oldest and largest nonprofit mental health agencies in Kane County. In addition to working with clients in individual, couples, and family therapy, he also assisted clients in navigating their experiences through the legal system, such as through co-facilitating the Partner Abuse Intervention Program (PAIP) group and helping clients in recovery through the Kane County Treatment Alternative Court (TAC) program.

In working with Nicholas, you can expect a welcoming environment and to be fully heard, but someone who is also going to be transparent and challenge you when necessary.
