Telehealth Counseling Anywhere in Illinois

Counseling that fits your life.

Fox Valley Institute for Growth and Wellness offers Telehealth counseling by secure video for adults and college students anywhere in Illinois. You meet with the same licensed therapists who see clients in our Naperville office, from the privacy of your home, dorm or workplace. Text or call (630) 718-0717, and an intake coordinator will check your insurance and match you with the right therapist.

Telehealth is all about convenience. Some clients meet with us only by video. Others start in our office and switch to Telehealth when life gets busy, or mix the two from week to week. Either way, you keep the same therapist.

Telehealth may be a great fit if you:

  • Are a college student juggling classes, work and activities.
  • Have a packed work or family schedule.
  • Find it hard to get to an office because of distance, health or transportation.
  • Live outside the Naperville area but still in Illinois.
  • Feel more at ease talking from home.
  • Want to keep seeing your therapist on busy weeks.

What our patients say about us

What We Offer by Telehealth

Adults and college students located anywhere in Illinois can meet with a Fox Valley Institute therapist by secure video. Some services are offered only in our Naperville office.

By Telehealth

In our Naperville office only

We see children, teens and anyone having psychological testing in person on purpose. Testing uses hands-on tools and careful observation that work best face to face, and younger clients usually feel most at ease in a calm room with their therapist and their parents close by.

Telehealth or in person?

There is no wrong choice. Telehealth saves the drive and fits between classes, meetings and family time. Meeting in our Naperville office can feel more grounding for some people. Many clients use both, and your therapist can help you decide what works for you.

Telehealth for College Students and Young Adults

College and the years right after it are full of change: tough classes, new jobs, roommates, relationships and big decisions. Telehealth lets you talk with a licensed therapist between classes or after work, right from your dorm or apartment. You can keep the same therapist at school and at home over breaks, as long as you are in Illinois for each session.

Telehealth works for students at colleges and universities anywhere in Illinois, such as the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, North Central College, Benedictine University, Wheaton College, Aurora University and the College of DuPage.

Going to school out of state? Sessions must happen while you are in Illinois, so you can meet with us over breaks and summers, by video or in our office.

Getting Ready for Your First Video Session

  • A private room where you can talk freely
  • Headphones, for extra privacy
  • A charged phone, tablet or computer with a camera
  • A steady internet connection
  • Your insurance card, close at hand
  • A phone number where we can reach you if the video drops

Insurance and Telehealth

Many insurance plans cover telehealth counseling. Illinois law requires state-regulated health plans to cover telehealth mental health visits the same way they cover in-person visits. We accept Medicare, including for Telehealth, and many major plans. We do not accept HMO plans or Medicaid. Before your first visit, an intake coordinator checks your coverage and explains what to expect. See the insurance plans we accept.

Telehealth Questions

Do I have to be in Illinois for a telehealth session?

Yes. Our therapists are licensed in Illinois, so you need to be physically located in Illinois during each video session. You do not need to live near Naperville. Anywhere in the state works.

Is telehealth therapy private and secure?

Yes. Telehealth sessions are confidential, just like sessions in our office, and they take place on a secure video platform. For the most privacy, join from a room where no one can overhear you, and use headphones if that helps.

Can I switch between office visits and video visits?

Yes. Many clients start in our Naperville office and move to Telehealth when life gets busy, or mix the two from week to week. You keep the same therapist either way.

Does insurance cover telehealth therapy?

Many plans do. Illinois law requires state-regulated health plans to cover telehealth mental health visits the same way they cover in-person visits. We accept Medicare and many major plans, but not HMO plans or Medicaid. Our intake coordinators check your coverage before your first visit.

Can my teen do telehealth therapy?

No. We see children and teens in person at our Naperville office. Meeting face to face helps younger clients feel comfortable and connected, and it keeps parents close by.

Can psychological testing be done online?

No. Psychological testing happens in person at our Naperville office, because it uses hands-on tools and careful observation that work best face to face.

I go to college out of state. Can I still meet with a therapist?

You can meet with us whenever you are in Illinois, such as over winter break or summer, by video or in our office. Because our therapists are licensed in Illinois, we cannot hold sessions while you are physically in another state. Your campus counseling center can help in the meantime, and we are glad to help you plan.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For many common concerns, such as anxiety, depression, stress and relationship struggles, research has found that therapy by video can work about as well as meeting in person. What matters most is a good connection with your therapist and meeting consistently.

What if I need help right away?

Telehealth is for scheduled sessions, not emergencies. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room.

How do I get started with telehealth therapy?

Text or call (630) 718-0717, or request an appointment online. An intake coordinator will check your insurance, suggest the right therapist and help you set up your first video session.
